First Picture

This is the abandoned-looking building beside the Lafayette Coney Island restaurant on Lafayette St., Detroit. This was taken in the summer of 2004, and now it's blank again.

Welcome!

I started Beautiful Detroit on January 23, 2005, but the idea has been in my head since about late May of 2004. I was at a French Kicks show and Ian Sefchick (formerly in Creeper Lagoon) of opening band On The Speakers and I were discussing various things, one of them being our location at the time. He stated that he liked Detroit "because it always looks like a war just happened." It's a pretty funny joke, but that has always been in the back of my mind.

I am a Canadian, from a town near the city across the Detroit River, Windsor (aka the Rose City), so my family and I frequent the Detroit area. By going there often, we see so much of the Motor City, such as the architecture, sculptures, etc.

I don't expect this site to heighten the Windsor-Detroit area's tourism, I just want to reach people in the far corners of the globe, and inform them visually of two wonderful cities and their surrounding areas.

This is just the first post of many to come. I'm going to aim for once every two weeks or so. Also, this won't include pictures from just Detroit or Windsor, but as far away as Ann Arbor, Michgan or as close as Essex, Ontario, for example.

Thanks for checking this out, and feel free to email me (located in my profile) or comment about any questions, etc. Feedback is always appreciated!
